Charles Alfred was born on January 20, 1910, the youngest son of William Walter and his wife, Anna (Trollinger) Kitzer. William Walter and Anne Kitzer had twelve children; Anna (1886), Estella (1887), Rebecca, (1890) William Walter (1891), Harry (1893), Margaret (1895), Jacob (1896), Martha (1899-1900) John (1901), Gilmore (1903), Blanche (1905), Charles (1910).
In the 1920 Federal Census, Wm Walter and Anna are living on Seventh Street in Lower Burrell, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Wm Walter is a farmer. They have seven of their children still living with them; Harry, Jacob, John, Gilmore, Blanche, Charles and Margaret Wall their married daughter. Charles is nine years old and attending school.
In the 1930 Federal Census, William and Anna remain in Lower Burrell and they have three children, a grandson and a lodger living with them. They are, Margaret, their widowed daughter and her son, Ralph, Gilmore, Charles and a lodger by the name of William Kane. Charles is working with Aluminum plant.
Charles married Frances Louise Hunt between the 1930 federal Census and her death in 1937. She died on October 12,1937 at the age of 24 from Septicemia after an operation on October 5, 1937. I never found a marriage certificate but France’s death certificate states clearly that she and Charles were married.
In the 1940 Federal Census, Charles is found in New Kensington, Pennsylvania at 1018 Barner Street. He is ‘single’ and rents a room from the Davis Dewis family. He lists his occupation as a “chipper” for an Aluminum Company.
After the 1840 Census, Charles married Maria Louise Altmeyer. Charles and Maria are listed in the Kensington Directories in 1950, 1952, 1955 and 1959. He is now doing mill work.
Fifty four years ago today, Charles died on February 4, 1966 at the age of 56 from cancer of the Lymph nodes. He is buried at Plum Creek Cemetery.
Rest in peace, Charles!
Love, Jan
